Term 4 is coming up, and it is time to start preparing for Cooking Competition!
This will be held in the fourth fortnight of the term, between Monday 16th November and Friday 27th November 2015.
This will be held in the kitchen (during normal P2P kitchen time), and each class is asked to work together to come up with their own menu. Menu items may be sourced from the recipes supplied in the kitchen, or from home, but there is to be no meat, and students are asked to consider any allergies that may be present in their class.
I will need to know at least a week before what the menu will be in order to prepare. Students are asked to give an explanation of their menu items, why it was chosen, and how it will be presented.
The students have to work together in their teams to independently (from adult help) create, present, and serve out their menu item, all within their time limit and making enough for around 30 people to have a taste. They then also have to clean up independently. Points will be awarded or lost depending on:
*team work and communication
*safe and skillful use of equipment
*safety in the kitchen
*knowledge of where items are stored
*following their recipe
*using only items found in the pantry and the garden
*independence from adult assistance
Bonus points will be awarded for:
*assisting other groups (if needed)
*washing/drying/putting away dishes without being asked to do so
*Pushing in chairs from another group without being asked
*cleaning the sink area after dishes have been finished
*bringing extra fruit/veg from home (NOTE! No pre-packaged ingredients! So no store-bought bread/pasta/pasta sauce/icecream/whipped cream/ cake mixes/packet mixes/pizza bases! Only whole ingredients (such as tomato puree). We have the recipes to make most of them, so include this in your planning).
I hope everyone will have a fun time with this!
